What is Acceptance and Commitment Coaching?

A gentle introduction...

My approach to coaching is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Despite the word 'therapy', it's highly transferable to a coaching context as its focus is on helping people live more meaningfully and flexibly.

In simple terms, ACT helps individuals:

Accept what can’t be controlled

Defuse from unhelpful thoughts

Connect with what truly matters

Take committed action guided by personal values

It’s not about fixing an individual, because they're not seen as broken. And instead of helping clients eliminate or change the content of their thoughts and feelings, Acceptance and Commitment Coaching (ACC) focuses on embracing our internal experiences - thoughts, emotions and feelings - without judgement. If anything, it’s about helping people relate differently to their thoughts and feelings so they can live with more ease, purpose, and presence.

It is a powerful, practical approach that underpins most of the coaching work at GU6ix. 

 

So, whether you're an overthinker, a perfectionist, or simply someone navigating the ups and downs of life, ACC offers a compassionate and empowering way to move forward. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

The 6ix core processes of ACC

ACC is grounded in 6ix core processes, all of which aim to build psychological flexibility.

Psychological flexibility refers to the ability to be in the present moment, aware of, and open to all our internal experiences, while consciously choosing to act in ways that align with our values.
